Obituary of Thomas J. "Tom" Recchio

Mr. Thomas J. “Tom” Recchio, age 90, beloved husband of Ann, and a longtime Frankfort resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2016, in the privacy and comfort of his home. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by the love and support of his dedicated family. Born on August 29, 1925, Tom was the son of the late Louis and Anna (Catalina) Recchia. He was raised and received his education in Syracuse. In 1943 Tom moved to Frankfort with his family. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted with the United States Army and served in the European Theater throughout World War II. Tom was extremely proud of the service he gave to his country. Upon his return from duty, Tom fell in love with the former Ann Datena. The two met at a dance, and from that point on, continued to dance through 68 years together. They were married on June 21, 1947 at St. Mary’s Church in Frankfort and so began a union filled with love, laughter and many happy memories. He lovingly referred to his wife as “Ma Rec” and they cared for one another in every way along life’s journey. Tom and Ann were a couple that truly complimented one another and were dedicated to raising their family on strong Christian values. Tom’s work ethic and drive to provide for his family was evident throughout his career. He was employed by UNIVAC as an assembler, supervisor and area coordinator for 34 years until the company relocated. He then worked as a supervisor for Disposable Profiles, a company that manufactured disposable hospital garments. Lastly, Tom worked as a manager at the Capital District Off Track Betting in Herkimer, a position he held well into his eighties. “Papa”, as he was affectionately known to his family, was a man who epitomized the meaning of being a husband, father and grandfather. His family was the focal point of his life and he loved family get-togethers and parties, when those he loved were all in one place. He had a love for dancing, from the legion parties in his younger years all the way up until the latest family wedding. A devout Catholic by faith, Tom was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort and faithfully attended weekly mass until his health no longer permitted him to do so. He was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post 845, a former cub master for St. Mary’s Church and a former Frankfort Village Trustee. He was also part of a group of friends that for many years got together for weekly poker games which he looked forward to and were very special to him. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; his daughters and sons-in-law, Francesca and Francis Nicastro of Manassas, VA and Judy and Michael Ciallelo of Frankfort; his sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Sharon Recchio of Frankfort and Louis and Donna Recchio of Royal Palm Beach, FL; his grandchildren, Jude Nicastro, Dominique and Aeran Doron, Cory and Kacey Nicastro, Kelly and Ahmadu Ahmed, Brandon and Molly Ciallelo, Nicole and Fred Castronovo, Shawn Ciallelo, Chad and Michelle Ciallelo, Marcus and Kristine Recchio, Jason Recchio, Chrisandra and Paul Grimes, Christopher and Jonna Recchio and Joseph Recchio. Always close to Tom’s heart were the memories of his two beloved grandsons, Michael and David Recchio, who he is now reunited with in heaven. He also leaves 16 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Lena Vulcano of Frankfort, Ida DelGuidice of Syracuse and Jesse Siniscarco of Utica; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and in-laws. He was predeceased by his brothers, Peter Recchie and Joseph Recchia. Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, January 24, 2016, from 2:00PM – 5:00PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894 – 8000.
