Gloria E. (Torres) Byrne, age 70, of Ilion, passed away following a courageous battle on Monday, January 25, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, with her loving family by her side. Gloria was constantly surrounded with loved ones and the closest of friends. She was born May 10, 1945 in Maunabo, Puerto Rico, a daughter to the late Daniel and Maria (Camacho) Torres and was educated in schools there. She worked for many years at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Hartford as a seamstress. Gloria was a very devoted parishioner of the Church of Annunciation, Ilion, and graced many of us through the years with her beautiful singing ability as a member of the church choir. She constantly gave of herself to others and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her loving partner Thomas Doughty of Deansboro and their loved pet Tilly, her children, Charito Jaquin and her husband Christopher of New Hartford and their children Avalon and Sawyer, as well as Civita Lape and her husband Jason of Ilion and their children James, Charisma, Joshua, Coleigh, and Jax, and her step-son, James Byrne, Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband James Byrne, Sr. in 1988, her sister Christina Torres, her step-son, Michael Byrne, and several other loving members of the Byrne family. Also surviving are her siblings Francisco Torres and Ana Cardona, Maria Austin, and Anibal Torres and his wife Dolores, and many nieces and nephews inclusive to Susan Torres-Mathew, Victoria Torres, Jose Maldonado, Rosa Valdivia, and great-nieces and nephews. Loving members of Tom’s family also survive including his mother and sister, Jane M. Doughty and Jane Doughty. Funeral services will be held 9:45 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, (Town of Frankfort), and 10:30 a.m. from the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, were a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Catena, Pastor. Calling hours are 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Enea Family Funeral Home. Spring interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. The date is planned for Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Noon at the cemetery for graveside committal services. Contributions in memory of Gloria may be considered to the Church of the Annunciation.
