Obituary of Charles H. Blackman

Litchfield: Charles H. Blackman, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at home with the love and support of his family by his side. Born on August 9, 1932 in Herkimer, Charles was the son of the late Albert and Ida (Volk) Blackman. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Mohawk High school. He honorably served his country in the Korean Conflict in the United States Army. On April 14, 1956 he married Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Wellenstein, the couple sharing a union of 57 years before her passing on December 30, 2013. During his working years, Charles worked for General Electric as a printing press operator. He was an avid sports fan and played on various softball teams for the 30 and over league in Ilion until the age of 80 and at one time was an umpire. Charles was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is survived by his children, daughter Joyce Preston and husband Stephen of LaQuinta, CA;a son, Eric Blackman and wife Carol of Ormond Beach, FL; daughter, Charlene Blake and husband Andrew of West Winfield and; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Kenneth Blackman and wife Terri, Harold (Jake) LaFayette and wife Brenda, George LaFayette and wife Julie and Lana Dimming and husband Jessie and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to invite friends and relatives to pay their respects on Sunday, February 14, 2016 from 2:00 PM-4:00 PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, NY (town of Frankfort) 315-894-8000. His funeral service will commence at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 317 Gros Blvd., Herkimer, NY. Interment will take place in the Spring in Cedarville Cemetery with full military honors. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Charles’ memory, may consider the Cedarville Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family is being cared for by Harry J. and Kevin E. Enea, Funeral Directors.
