Obituary of David B. Cook, III

LITTLE FALLS-FRANKFORT - Mr. David B. Cook, III, age 74, currently of Little Falls, and formerly of Frankfort and Florida, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Born on November 10, 1941, David was the son of the late David B., II, and Dorothy (Male) Cook. He was raised and educated in Frankfort and a graduate of the Fishburne Military Academy in Virginia. In August of 1965, he was wed to the former Judy Gonyea, a seventeen year relationship from which came David’s two sons. He was later married to Sandy Borrows. As a veteran of the United States Army, David served his country from 1965 until his honorable discharge in 1967. He was proud that both of his sons would someday follow in his footsteps of joining the service. David was a 3rd generation owner of the Acme Road Machinery Company in Frankfort. One of his accomplishments was the creation and adaption of a crusher for the ARC’s glass recycling program in the 1970’s. He later moved to Florida, where he worked in construction for many years until his retirement several years ago. David was on the Herkimer County Fairgrounds board of directors in the 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s, volunteering countless hours to his community. He was instrumental in bringing off-season events to the fairgrounds, which helped greatly in stimulating the local economy. In his spare time, David enjoyed bowling and football games. He was a parishioner of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Ilion. David is survived by his son, Mark Cook and his companion, Gina Culver, of Mohawk, and his son and daughter-in-law, John Cook and Sheila Cook, of Little Falls; his grandchildren, Trinity, Nicholas, David and Nathaniel; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Jack Hayes, of Venice, FL, and Sally and David Valle, of Palmetto, FL; a brother, James Cook, of Palmetto, FL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his sister, Mary Alice Cook. Visitation will be held from 4 PM – 6 PM on Monday, February 15, 2016, from the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger facility at 4309 Acme Road (old Main St.), between Ilion and Frankfort. David’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 6:00 PM on Monday, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation, where military honors will be accorded by the US Army. Spring burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich, where David will be laid to rest with his mother and sister. Those wishing to do so may consider memorial contributions in David’s name to the Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 755 E. Monroe St., Little Falls, NY 13365.
