Obituary of Donald E. Ortlieb

BINGHAMTON/DOLGEVILLE – Mr. Donald Edward Ortlieb, age 55, currently of Binghamton, NY and formerly of Dolgeville, NY passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Binghamton General Hospital. Born in Little Falls on August 24, 1960, Don is the son of Edward and Sandra (Darling) Ortlieb. He was raised and educated in Dolgeville, graduating from Dolgeville High School with the Class of 1980. For a short time, Don lived in Florida, relocating to Binghamton where he has resided for the past twenty years. Don spent his career at the Boys and Girls Club of Binghamton, where he volunteer for several years, until he acquired a full-time position as a mentor and counselor. In his free time, Don played drums, enjoyed listing to all types of music, as well as watching old classical movies. He enjoyed travelling to many places around the world, including Hawaii, Dominican Republic, Aruba, and many more Caribbean Islands. When he wasn’t traveling, he could be found spending time with his beloved family, especially his nieces and nephews. Don leaves his parents, Edward and Sandy Ortlieb of Dolgeville; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lyne and John Rolgieri of Binghamton and Tammy and Jeffrey Broat of Dolgeville; his nephew and Godson, Saverio Roglieri; his nieces, Nina Roglieri, Kara Kapler and Jade Taylor Broat; and his great-niece and great-nephew, Ruby Kibicho and Jayden Burgos. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Don was predeceased by his nephews, Jeffrey James Broat and Darrin Looman. Don's family would like to thank The Yellow Cab Company; specifically the person responsible for helping him when he needed it most, and also the North Shore Housing Complex where Don lived for many years, for watching out for him. Thank You! Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours, which will take place on Saturday, February 27, 2016, from 11:00AM – 1:00PM at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church. Don’s memorial service will be held at 1:00PM at the church, immediately upon the conclusion of calling hours, with Reverend Jack Ford officiating. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to The Boys & Girls Club of Binghamton, 90 Clinton St., Binghamton, NY 13905. Envelopes will be available at the service.
