COLD BROOK, NY-GEORGIA – Darrell James Shumway, age 50, of Covington, GA, died unexpectedly on February 23, 2016, in Covington, GA. He was born March 18, 1965, in New Hartford, NY, the son of Thomas and Charlotte (King) Shumway, and attended Poland School, in Poland, NY. Darrell was a ten year veteran in the US Navy, and served in Desert Storm. He married his wife Abbra in Florida. For several years, he was a bank loan officer in Florida. More recently he was employed as an installer for ADT having moved to Georgia where he did a lot of on-the-job traveling. Darrell has always enjoyed camping, liked watching football, and was into fishing and crabbing. He loved to cook, and whenever there were family gatherings he did the cooking. He spent a lot of his time with friends and was a great “partier”. Probably his most favorite thing to do was “Bar B Q-ing”. He attended Bar B Que competitions everywhere and was known for his very own special Bar B Que sauce. His mom still has his secret coveted recipe that he intended to merchandise and market. He is survived by his loving wife, Abbra, in Covington, GA; seven children, Christopher Shumway, Darrell Shumway, Jr., Amber Johnson, Brittany Blankenship, Caitlyn Shumway, Timothy Shumway, and step-daughter, Nicole Singley; seven grandchildren; one brother, Thomas W. Shumway, of VA; one sister, Susan Cotton and her husband, Carl, of Ilion; one uncle, Darwin King and his wife, Pat, of Clinton; two aunts, Eva King, of Utica, and Ann Hill, of Clinton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Abbra Shumway, c/o Charlotte and Tom Shumway, 405 Hurricane Rd., Cold Brook, NY 13324. A Memorial service will be held at noon, Monday, February 29, 2016, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s newly reopened and renovated home at 102 West St., Ilion. Visitation is Monday, February 29, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to noon, prior to the funeral home service at the funeral home at 102 West St., Ilion.
