Dolgeville – Mr. John D. Silvernail 89, of Dolgeville passed away on Friday March 11, 2016 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. He was born on February 7, 1927 to the late Charles and Georgiana (Jones) Silvernail. He was born, raised and educated in Dolgeville. Upon leaving school, John proudly joined the United States Navy until he was honorable discharged in 1945. After being discharged John joined in marriage to the former Carolyn Desch which they shared a blessed union of 59 years until her passing in 2010. John was of the Methodist faith. John was self-employed as a General Contractor. During his free time John could be seen around his home taking care of his yard, or doing finish wood working. If he wasn’t doing those things he would be fishing. John is predeceased by his brother Charles (Bud), and his sisters Alice, Katherine, Betty, and Jane. Surviving him is his son Gary Silvernail and Kim Klemann of Dolgeville, his Daughter Kathy and husband Tom of Woodstock VT, and his grandchildren Douglas John Avellino of Woodstock, VT and Hedi Silvernail of Tampa, FL. He also leaves behind his Sister Helen Benedetto of Albany and many nieces and nephews. In keeping with John’s wishes there are NO formal services.
