Obituary of Salvatore Nicolette

ILION - Salvatore Nicolette of Ilion, New York, passed away peacefully at his home on March 17, 2016 with his family by his side. Sal was born in Frankfort, New York, on July 17, 1930, the son of Frank and Victoria Cinquino Nicolette. He graduated from Herkimer High School in 1948 and enlisted in the United States Army where he served for three years during the Korean Conflict. He received an honorable discharge in 1952. Thereafter, Sal entered the United States Postal Service where he was a letter carrier from 1952 until 1975. One of Sal’s greatest achievements was serving as Chairman of the GPO Credit Union for 25 years. During his time with the Credit Union, it grew exponentially in both its members and in its assets. Sal is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years Regina Nicolette, his daughters Nicole Walz and her husband Charles; Rosemary Zick and her husband Richard; Victoria Nurod and her husband Nick; Lisa Lamica and her fiancé Duffy Jones; and his sons Sean Nicolette and his wife Claire; and Sal Nicolette and his wife Lisa; also his cherished grandchildren CJ, Sam, and Maddox Walz, Nicolette, Matt, and Gabrielle Nurod, Sal Nicolette, Jr., Jillian Barry and her husband Mark, and Matthew and Zach Lamica. Sal was predeceased by his two sisters, Rosalie Nicolette and June Outtrim – Workman. In keeping with Sal’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A memorial mass for Sal will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Francis de Sales Church, North Bellinger Street in Herkimer, with The Reverend Mark Cunningham, Pastor, officiating. The family will be available to meet with relatives and friends at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time the Mass begins at 9:30 AM. Sal will always be remembered for his loyalty, sincerity, originality, his passion for horse racing and, most importantly, for his fierce love for his family. He was truly one of a kind.
