Obituary of Anthony C. Spohn

FRANKFORT: Anthony C. Spohn (Tony), a lifelong resident of Frankfort, NY, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, March 25, 2016 at the age of 95. Tony was born December 17, 1920 to the late Michael Cuchiara (Spohn) and Rosalia Serillo. On December 6, 1941, he married Nancy DiGristina in St. Mary’s Church, Frankfort. After 73 years of marriage, Nancy passed away on February 14, 2014. In his younger years, Tony worked on his family’s farm. Later, he was a truck driver for Oneida Motor Freight, Party Packing Company, Mohawk Containers and Fanelli Motor Company until his retirement in 1985. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort and a member of Columbian Federal Lodge, St. Francis Di Paola Society and Sons of Italy in Utica. Tony is survived by a daughter, Rosalie Spohn and her fiancé, Dennis Klampert of Utica; two grandchildren, John and Tiffany Accattato of Tampa, FL and Sarah and Gary Beaton of Whitesboro; four great-grandchildren, Anthony Accattato, Gianina Accattato, Colton Michael Beaton and Ella Rose Beaton. He also leaves in-laws, Leo DiGristina of Schuyler, Mary Gerace of Florida, Rose Juliano of Schuyler, Clara Lidano of Herkimer, Ceil and Bill Amey of Pennsylvania, Mary DiGristina of Schuyler and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Vito, Philip, and Sam Spohn and his sisters, Rose Candella and Mary Plano. Tony’s family would like to thank the staff of The Pines Care Facility for their care and kindness during his stay there, especially, T.J., Steve and Alice. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016 beginning with prayer service at 9:45 AM from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road (Town of Frankfort) Ilion, NY (315)894-8000 and at 10:30 AM from Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, South Frankfort Street, Frankfort where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Procession will then follow to Mt. Olivet Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The St. Francis Di Paola Society will conduct services at 6:30 PM on Wednesday evening at calling hours. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Tony’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association of Central NY Chapter, 441 West Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse, NY 13204 or The Pines at Utica Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, 1800 Butterfield Ave., Utica, NY 13501, or a charity of your choice.
