Obituary of Frances R. Walrath

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mrs. Frances R. Walrath, age 104, a lifelong resident of St. Johnsville, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 with loving family at her side. She was born on January 18, 1912 in St. Johnsville, a daughter of the late Myron D. and Hattie (Montana) Robinson. She was a 1930 graduate of St. Johnsville High School and went on to attend nursing school at Syracuse General, receiving her RN in 1933. Her marriage to Ivan D. Walrath took place October 24, 1933. He passed away in 1986. She worked for 35 years as a Registered Nurse at Little Falls Hospital, retiring in 1977. Frances was a longtime member of Grace Church Congregation, as well as the St. Johnsville Saints Senior Citizens and the Women’s Fellowship of Grace Church. She was a great knitter and had a special talent in the creation of afghan blankets. She loved to sew, and found great pleasure travelling with her husband and the senior citizens. Frances was very caring and family oriented. She is survived by her children, a son Byron C. Walrath and his wife Anne of St. Johnsville, her daughters, Nancy Walrath of Syracuse, Vicki Garrett and her husband Stanley of Chittenango, and Emma Jane Blair and her husband Robert of Ladson, South Carolina, and a sister – in – law, Dorothy Robinson of Fort Plain. She was an amazing grandmother to nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and also has many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Joan Chester, her sisters Janet Brezinsky, Catherine Ryan, Emma Robinson, and Mildred Leavenworth, and a brother Theron Richard Robinson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 9, 2016 at 11:30 AM at Grace Church, Center Street in St. Johnsville with Pastor Martin Glynn officiating. Calling hours are AT the church Saturday morning two hours prior to the service (beginning at 9:30 AM). Interment will follow at West St. Johnsville Cemetery. Donations in memory of Frances are asked to be considered to Grace Church. The family is grateful toward the staff of the St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, “C Unit.” Her funeral arrangements are under the direction and supervision of Funeral Directors Harry J. and Kevin E.
