Obituary of Erwin J. Ostertag

OPPENHEIM: US Navy veteran, Erwin J. Ostertag, 87, of Oppenheim, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in his home, with the love and support of his family at his side. Erwin was born on April 11, 1928 to the late George and Ida (Koelle) Ostertag in Rochester, NY. He was raised and educated in the local schools. Upon graduating high school Erwin enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country proudly from 1946 to 1954 during the Korean War. Erwin married Beatrice Fischer on July 23, 1947. They shared a blessed union of 68 years until the time of his passing. Erwin was employed at Gleason Works in Rochester retiring in 1985 after 34 years of service. After retirement Erwin enjoyed a variety of activities such as scuba diving, motorcycle rides, bicycle rides with the guys in Florida, or flying his ultra- light plane. Erwin was of the Catholic Faith. Erwin is survived by his wife Beatrice, his children, Linda Ostertag of Rochester, Steven and Deb Ostertag of Rochester, Karen Bone and her husband David of Oppenheim, Kirk and Becky Ostertag of Rochester, Mark and Alice Ostertag of Rochester and numerous Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren and nieces. He also leaves behind his sisters, Ruth Ostertag of the West Coast and Hildegard Cole of Rochester. In keeping with Erwin’s wishes, there are NO formal services.
