Obituary of Richard N. Carpenter

HERKIMER/NEW HARTFORD: Richard N. Carpenter, 82, beloved husband of Kathleen (Vitale) Carpenter and a former long time Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at St. Luke’s Home, New Hartford with the love and support of his family by his side. Born on November 15, 1933 in West Camp, NY, Richard was the son of the late Valmore and Mildred (Neher) Carpenter. He was a graduate of Saugerties High School/Class of 1951 and continued his studies at SUNY Canton. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he honorably served his country. On September 25, 1954 he married the former Kathleen D. Vitale with whom he shared 61 years in a union of devotion to one another. Richard worked as a senior purchaser for PAR Technology of New Hartford for many years and also worked at one time for MDS and General Electric. He was a former member of the Herkimer Polish Community Home. A gentle and kind person, his family was everything to him and he loved his wife, children, and grandchildren unconditionally. He was an avid gardener, keeping a meticulous yard and enjoyed watching sports on TV. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen of New Hartford; his sons, Richard T. Carpenter and Jeffrey S. Carpenter, Esq. and his wife Laura all of Herkimer; his daughter, Susan M. Carpenter of Poland; his cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Noah and Lindsey Carpenter and a brother, Robert Carpenter and wife Shirley of Saugerties. He also leaves his sister- in-law, Teresa M. Bosomworth of Florida as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Ed Luther of Norway, NY. The Carpenter Family would like to acknowledge the staff of the St. Luke’s Home and their dialysis team for the care and compassion shown to Richard during his time spent there. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday, April 11, 2016 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home (F.K.A. Holleran Funeral Service), 220 N.
