Stratford: Mr. Robert G. Knapp, 66, of Mallett Hill Road passed away peacefully at his residence with the love and support of his family by his side on Wednesday morning April 13, 2016. Robert was born on November 13, 1949 to the late Floyd and Evelyn (Looman) Knapp in Little Falls. He was brought up and raised in Lotville with many childhood memories of his family and friends. Robert worked hard all of his life, beginning with selling Grit papers as a young boy on his bicycle. He started working at the Daniel Green Shoe Company at the age of 16 until there closing as a relaster. Robert was most proud of his work at the Dolgeville Cemetery where he was a caretaker for many years. If Robert wasn’t working in the cemetery he would be doing yard work around his house, celebrating his investment in the Genesee Beer Brewing Company with his buddies Ted Youker and Gerry Hawkins, fixing bicycles or fishing. But most of all he would be spending special time with his K9 friend Cody. On July 7, 1968 Robert married the former Arlene Lyons. They shared a blessed union of 48 years until his passing. Robert is survived by his wife Arlene, his children, Bobby and his wife Jennifer of Stratford, and his daughter Lisa and her husband David Monohan of Mohawk. His grandchildren, Kara and Michaela Monohan, and Tanner Knapp. He also leaves behind his brothers Ronald Knapp of Dolgeville, Larry and Lovie Knapp of East Herkimer, and Grant (Bosco) Knapp of Lotville. The Knapp family would like to thank all of Robert’s Doctors at Bassett Health Care in Cooperstown, a special thank you to Dr. Pascale Raymond in GI Lab at Cooperstown, and all of the girls there who took such wonderful care of him. And Mountain Valley Hospice for the kindness and care they gave him at the end, with special thanks to Russ and Sarah. In keeping with Robert’s wishes, there are NO formal services.
