Obituary of Shirley M. Poirier

Schuyler-Frankfort - Shirley M. Poirier, age 91, of Creek Rd., Schuyler, went into eternal rest with her beloved Lord, Jesus, peacefully, on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the Masonic Care Community, Utica, with her loving family at her bedside. She was born on May 1, 1924, in Piercefield, NY, the daughter of Edgar and Grace (LeClair) LaRocque. Shirley was a graduate of Tupper Lake High School. On September 10, 1943, she was married to Maurice Joseph “Pug” Poirier, Sr., in Tupper Lake, NY. He died April 25, 1996. In her early years, she was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, in plane maintenance. She became a homemaker and devoted her life to her husband and raising her daughter and four sons. In her later years, she was an active member in the Widowers & Grievance Organization in Herkimer and Widower’s Club. Mrs. Poirier was a communicant of St. Mark’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyes Rd., Utica. Her beloved survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Don Bova, of Utica; four sons and four daughters-in-law, Maurice “Mickey” Poirier, Jr., and his wife, Deborah, of Whitesboro, Richard and Susan Poirier, of Herkimer, Robert and Sandy Poirier, of Deerfield, and Scott Poirier and Victoria Hillebrand, of Utica; nine grandchildren, Tracy Poirier and Michelle, Monique Millard and husband, Dave, Maurice “Mike” Poirier, III, Brian Bova and his wife, Theresa, Bridget Towt and husband, Erik, Joshua and Brittany Poirier, Matt Poirier, and Andrea LaParco; ten great-grandchildren, Isaac Towt, Jacob Towt, Jonathan Perrault, Cody Banis, Ashley Bova, Brian Bova, Jr., Carrie-Lyn Bova, Brielle Cuoco, D’Marco Smith and Cohen Boehlert; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Theresa LaRocque, of Green, NY; one sister, Betty Gaines, of Niagara Falls, NY; a sister-in-law, Catherine Anderson, of Franklin, MA; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Karen Sauer. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by one son, John Poirier; one granddaughter, Rebecca Poirier; and two brothers, Gary and Donald LaRocque. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 25, 2016, at St. Mark’s Church, 440 Keyes Rd., Utica, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Mark Pasik, Pastor. Interment will be in West Schuyler Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s newly reopened and renovated home at 102 West St., Ilion.
