Obituary of George William Gay

Mr. George W. Gay Sr. 80 of 30 Top Notch Drive Little Falls, died Wednesday April 27th, 2016 at his residence. At the time of his passing he had the support and Love of his wife and family at his side. He was born in Herkimer on April 15, 1936 the son of George W. and Annabelle (Jaquays) Gay and was educated in local schools. A veteran of the United States Air Force he served honorably, during the Korean Conflict, from February 1954 until he was honorably discharged in October 1957. He was with the 1st Air Force stationed at Mitchell Air Base, and was with 321st Sac Command. He earned the National Defense Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He was united in marriage to the former Sandra L. Shull on September 1, 1956 in the Methodist Church in Herkimer. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this September. George was a truck driver for several companies, including Associated Transport, Dorns Transportation Company and the Rite Aid Company from which he retired from in March of 1999. His love of golf would find him at local courses including Little Falls Golf Course, Mohawk Valley, and Nick Stoners in Caroga Lake and Holland Heights in Herkimer. He is survived by his wife Sandra of 59 years, his sons and their wives George W. and Valerie Gay of Little Falls, John I. and Sue Ellen Gay of Newport, his daughter Sharon L. and Michael Collins, of Little Falls, his grandchildren, Lisa and Tom Hughes, Amanda and Ron Zawtocki, Katherine Gay and her Fiancée Mark Murdock, Rachel Gay and her companion Bryon Lynch, Zachary and Amanda Keep his great granddaughters Grace and Lilly and his canine companion “Buddy”.
