Obituary of Ella M. Cool
HERKIMER - Ella M. Cool, age 92, a long time Herkimer area resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 30, 2016 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer.
Ella was born in Ilion on April 27, 1924, the daughter of the late Floyd and Marguerite (Thiel) Rowland. Raised and educated locally, she attended Mohawk High School and was a graduate of The Class of 1942. On September 12, 1942 she married Chester W. Cool with whom she shared a loving marriage of 41 years until his passing on October 13, 1983.
Ella was last employed as a bank teller for Marine Midland Bank in Herkimer retiring in 1983. At one time, she also worked at the Herkimer County Office Building, Herkimer Cut Rate, Woolworth’s and Remington Arms. As a loving and very family-oriented mother and grandmother, she enjoyed a special bond with her children and grandchildren. Her family was the center of her life and the heart of her happiness and she was known for her unconditional love. She enjoyed camping, baking, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren. A favorite past time for Ella was attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities. She also enjoyed her family reunions and the many family gatherings she and Chet held at their home. Ella loved her church and was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church of Herkimer and served as a member of St. Mary’s Guild of the church. She was also very active in her younger days in many other organizations, serving as a former member of the Eastern Star-Myrtle Chapter-148, Herkimer VFW #4915 Auxiliary, American Legion (Mohawk) Auxiliary, E. Herkimer Fire Department Auxiliary and the Town of Herkimer Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her son, Fred Cool and wife Donna of Herkimer; daughter-in-law, Teresa Cool; her cherished grandchildren, Todd and fiancé Denise, Kristin and their mother, Peg, Shannon, Ryan, Scott and wife Kim, John and wife Nicole McGuire, Jason McGuire, Brittnee (McGuire) Mexico and husband Ron; two sisters, Nancy (Gene) Pry, and Patty (Richard) Lindsey; one brother, Harry (Cindy) Rowland; 8 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters-in-law, Joan Murphy and Celine Harrad and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by a son, Melvin Cool; a grandson, Kevin Michael Cool; 3 brothers, Ted and Ken Rowland and Richard Murphy; and 3 sisters, Ann Simonson, Minnie Delisle, and Thelma Kingwater.
The family would like to thank Valley Health Services 1st Floor East for the care and compassion shown to Ella during her time spent there.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, (F.K.A. Holleran Funeral Service), 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315)866-1011.
Ella’s funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM following calling hours at the funeral home and will be officiated by The Rev. Jill Stellman. Procession will then follow to Mt. View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Town of Little Falls where she will be laid to rest.
In lieu of floral arrangements, donations can be made in Ella’s memory to Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
