Obituary of Daniel J Brewer

MOHAWK – Mr. Daniel J. Brewer, age 71, of Mohawk, passed away on Friday afternoon, May 13, 2016, at the Bassett Medical Center, in Cooperstown, surrounded by the love and support of his family at his side. Born on January 25, 1945, Daniel was the son of the late Robert and Bertha (Root) Brewer. He was raised and educated in Newport, where he attended local schools and spent his childhood and early adult years working on his family’s farm. At one time, he shared in a marriage with Melanie Brewer, a relationship from which came his beloved daughter, Amy. Hardworking and as a dedicated provider to his very core, Daniel spent many years running Mac’s Restaurant, in Newport. Concurrently, he also held various positions with Remington Arms, in Ilion, retiring as an Inspector after nearly forty-three years with the company. Later in his life, Daniel fell head-over-heels for the former Nancy Walters. He quickly pursued her heart, and the couple shared in a loving and faithful union for over eleven years. They were married on June 23, 2013, and remained steadfast in their devotion to caring for one another. Daniel was Nancy’s rock and caregiver when she faced tough times, and Nancy reciprocated this same dedication throughout Daniel’s illnesses. Daniel had a zest for life, and took great enjoyment in life’s simple gifts. He loved nothing more than taking his wife for a ride on his motorcycle, or enjoying a cold beer with friends after a long day. He took great pride in his home, his yard, his cars, and his bike, and he always maintained his things to a tee. He was extremely intelligent, generous towards the one’s he loved, and within his tough exterior, was truly a big softy with the kindest of hearts. Nothing made him happier than the times he spent with his daughter and his grandchildren. As an ardent patriot, Daniel easily displayed to the world how proud he was to be an American. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, at home; his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Richard Doyle, of Liverpool; and his grandchildren, Lane Doyle and Hunter Daniel Doyle. He also leaves his stepchildren, Supreana Callaghan, of Mohawk, Edward McGowan, and his girlfriend, Sherri, of Mohawk, Lisa Collard, and her husband, Adam, of Ilion, and Michael Warmuth, and his girlfriend, Jackie, of Herkimer, as well as their children and families. Besides his parents and his six siblings, he was predeceased by his best friend, George Walters, in 2013. Daniel had an impact on all who knew him and easily made many friends throughout his lifetime, especially his biker friends and those who he spent time with at the Mohawk American Legion. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours, which will take place on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West Street, Ilion. Daniel’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 6:00 PM, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation. The Brewer family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and doctors of the ICU at Bassett Medical Center, for the kindness and compassion shown to them during this difficult time.
