Obituary of Stephen Bachorik

Mohawk-Stephen (Steve) Bachorik, age 91, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, May 18th, 2016. Stephen was born on March 23, 1925, in Herkimer, the son of late Paul and Suzane (Martin) Bachorik. He attended Mohawk Schools and at the age of eighteen enlisted into the US Navy, honorably serving his country from 1944-1946. On December 31st, 1953, he was united in marriage to the former Leola Marguerite Chrisman, in Mohawk. Leola passed away on April 19th, 1986. Steve worked for many years at Univac and Remington Arms, retiring in 1977. Steve loved being outside in his gardens, a hobby that is shared and loved by his entire family. Steve also enjoyed going out dancing at the Utica Monarch, Ramada INN, or anyplace with good music and people. Steve often took rides to the Ilion Marina where he would shoot the breeze and watch the boats. Steve will be remembered as an independent man, very passionate about his views of the world. Steve is survived by two daughters, Carol and her husband Daniel Herkel of Mohawk and Holley Garhardt of Mohawk; a brother- in-law, Daniel Chrisman and wife Donna; four grandsons, Wayne Garhard, of North Carolina, Kirk Garhardt of Oneida, John Rigo of Mohawk, Marcus Herkel and wife Courtney of Mohawk; two granddaughters, DeAndra and her husband Nicholas Macri Jr., of Herkimer and Stephany and her husband Patrick Bennte of North Carolina; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother’s, John and Paul Bachorik and a sister, Elizabeth. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, May 21st 2016, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, NY (Town of Frankfort) 315-894-8000. His Funeral Service will take place immediately following calling hours at 11:00 AM at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Brian Engel. Please consider memorial contributions in Stephen’s memory to the Mohawk Homestead or The Dutch Reformed Church of Mohawk; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family has entrusted Steve’s funeral arrangements to Harry J. and Kevin E. Enea, Funeral Directors.
