Obituary of Margaret Ann Congdon

SALISBURY - Mrs. Margaret Ann Congdon, age 65, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away after a brief illness on Friday evening, July 1, 2016 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. Born on October 6, 1950, Margaret was the daughter of the late Earl M. and Victoria (Potempa) Murphy. She was raised and educated in Utica, graduating from the Utica Catholic Academy and continuing her studies at the Utica School for Practical Nurses On August 21, 1981, Margaret was wed to Mr. Duane “Wimp” Congdon, and the couple shared 32 years together until Mr. Congdon’s death on August 17, 2014. In her younger years, Margaret worked as a nurse, and then for General Electric as an assembler. Many would remember her from her years spent running Wimpy’s Bar and Grill and Squire’s Lounge in Dolgeville with her husband. Margaret is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Julie Murphy of Camden, Dennis Murphy of Oppenheim, Earl and Jan Murphy of Rome, Brian Murphy of Whitesboro and his girlfriend, Linda Acquaviva of Ilion, and Richard and Kathleen Murphy of Cassville. She also leaves her special granddaughter, Taylor Small, and her canine companion, Buddy. Besides her parents and husband, Margaret was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Lou Murphy and Sandra Lee Murphy, and her beloved son, Richard “Ricky” Small in 2004. Margaret’s family honored her life in a private farewell gathering, and she was laid to rest in Salisbury Rural Cemetery with her husband, Wimp.
