Obituary of Zofja "Sophie" Kaminski

LITTLE FALLS – Mrs. Zofja “Sophie” Kaminski, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, July 26, 2016, at the Alpine Rehab and Nursing Center, after 104 beautiful and blessed years of life. Born on March 9, 1912 in Poland, Zofja was the daughter of the late Francis and Josephine (Zbikowska) Grzywaczewski. She spent her childhood years in Poland before immigrating to the United States as a young woman. She lived in Schenectady for a short time and then settled permanently in Little Falls, where she met and fell in love with Boleslaw “Bill” Kaminski. The couple married in 1935 in Sacred Heart Church, and spent almost 65 years together, until Bill’s passing on August 27, 1999. Sophie worked for many years as a machine operator for The Dress Factory on Lansing Street in Little Falls and for Allegro Shoe Company. She was a woman devoted to her Catholic heritage and was a longtime parishioner of Holy Family Parish, as well as a member of the Holy Family Parish Rosary Society. Zofja is survived by her nieces and nephews, Anne Drapalski, Edward and Anne Gray, Jane Desmond and Jan and Polly Gray; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Ignatz, Tony, Telesfor, Stanley and Isador, and her sister, Stanistawa Rudewicz. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours, which will be held on Monday morning, August 1, 2016, from 9:30AM – 10:30AM at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY (315) 823 – 2424. Prayer will begin immediately following visitation, and procession will follow to Holy Family Parish where Zofja’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM with Rev. Terence Healy officiating, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, where Zofja will be laid to rest beside her husband. Those wishing to do so may consider memorial contributions to the Holy Family Parish memorial fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Heartfelt gratitude is extended to the nurses and staff of Alpine Rehab and Nursing, as well as to Father Terence Healy and Father Thomas Vail, for their spiritual guidance throughout the years. Zofja’s final wishes were prearranged and entrusted to Harry and Kevin Enea, Funeral Directors.
