NELLISTON – Mrs. Denise H. (Smith) Looman of School St., passed away at the age of 69 on Monday morning August 15, 2016. She was surrounded with tender loving care from her family at the Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville, NY. She was born November 21, 1946 in Nelliston, NY, a daughter of the late Sherman and Harriet (Peeler) Smith. On February 5, 1966 she was united in marriage with James F. Looman. They had celebrated 46 very special years of happiness raising their family. Mr. Looman passed away on November 12, 2012. Denise worked for 37 years with Fort Plain Central School as a cook. Together, with her husband Jim, they were owners of Dee’s Video in Fort Plain. Most of all, Denise was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was honored to be a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. Johnsville. Her church was so important to her, and she was so blessed to receive an immense amount of support from her church friends who were just like family to her. Denise enjoyed gardening, crafts, sewing and cooking as well. Survivors include her three children, James S. Looman of St. Johnsville, Michelle Hext and Jay Putnam of Sprinfield Center, and Renee Swank and her husband Joe of St. Johnsville, her seven grandchildren, Anthony and Kasie Hext, James C. and Aric Looman, Emile and Eryka Swank and Jamie Putnam, her sisters, Francine Wellman of Canajoharie and Betty Suderly and Mack of Fort Plain, In Laws, Irene Smith of El Paso, Texas, and Wayne and Brenda Looman of Fort Plain, and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her beloved canine companion, Angel. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jim, and her brother Nolan Smith. In keeping with Denise’s wishes, there are no calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service and celebration of the life of Denise Looman on Monday August 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center Street in St. Johnsville, NY with the Reverend David A. Johnson officiating. Procession will follow to Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda, NY where final interment will take place. The family requests donations in honor of Denise be considered to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of St. Johnsville, NY. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
