HERKIMER – Mrs. Aira H. Cassidy passed away at the age of 93 at the Masonic Care Community on Monday evening August 15, 2016. She was born on June 4, 1923 in Herkimer, NY, a daughter of the late Lester and Edna (Fort) Higby and was a lifelong resident of Herkimer. Aira was a graduate of Herkimer High School, ‘Class of 1945.’ She was united in marriage to John P. Cassidy on November 28, 1946 at St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer. The couple shared in nearly 50 years of marriage until the passing of Mr. Cassidy on October 25, 1995. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church. Mrs. Cassidy took great pride in her home and her family. Survivors include her three children, Brian Patrick Cassidy and his wife Diana of Herkimer, Aira C. Humphrey and her husband Ronald of Rome, NY and Erin C. White and her husband Joseph of Herkimer, NY, three grandchildren, Shannon (Humphrey) Todora and her husband David, of Rome NY, Kelsey and Brennan White, of Herkimer and one great-grandchild, Isabella Todora and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, John, and two sisters, Jeroline Button and Eileen Kenefick. Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 18, 2016 at 10:30 AM from The Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd. Ilion. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family at Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica, NY. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Wednesday Aug. 17 from 6 until 8 PM. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital. We would like to thank the nurses and aids in the Raquette neighborhood, especially Wendy, for the friendship and care they showed our mother while she was a resident.
