Obituary of Nancy A. Mason

LITCHFIELD – Mrs. Nancy A. Mason, age 71, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away on Tuesday morning, August 23, 2016, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, surrounded by the love and support of her entire family by her bedside. Born on October 13, 1944, Nancy was the daughter of the late Mary (Burdick) Draper. She was raised and educated in Ilion and was a graduate of Ilion High School. For many years, Nancy worked as a Program Production Planner with MDS and then with GN Nettest in Utica, a position from which she retired. Nancy was blessed to share in a forty-year relationship with Lawrence “Larry” Mason and the two were married on November 20, 1993. An inseparable couple with an unfailing bond, Nancy and Larry did everything together and were truly one another’s best friend. Family was of the utmost importance in Nancy’s life, and she enjoyed any time that was spent with them. She loved to cook and bake, and share her treats with others, and had a knack for arts and crafts. Truly selfless in nature, she was always willing to donate her time and efforts in order to help others. A vivacious woman with a charming personality, Nancy made friends no matter where she went and her positivity was contagious. Her determination and optimism were traits she maintained up until her very last moment, and she was truly an inspiration to her family and to those who knew her best. Nancy was of the Methodist faith and most recently attended services at the People’s Undenominational Church of Cedarville. She leaves behind a legacy of love to her beloved husband, Larry; her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Kevin Nellis, of St. Johnsville, and Diana and Bruce Cadwell, of Plainfield; her son, Donald Lowell, Jr., and Teresa Jordan, of Remsen; her stepdaughters and their spouses, Luann and Dennis Mowers, of Mohawk, and Barbara Mason and Robert Rando, of Herkimer; and her stepsons and their spouses, Patrick and Candy Mason, of Ancrumdale, NY, Wesley Mason and Nadine Meyerriecks, of Herkimer, and Lawrence Mason, Jr., of Litchfield. Always close to her heart was the memory of her stepson, Thomas Mason, who preceded her in death. Nancy is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and members of the Schuyler family in Wisconsin, with whom she shared a special bond. Besides her mother and stepson, Nancy was predeceased by her brother, Harold Burdick, and her Aunt, Katherine Johnston. Nancy’s family bid their farewells in a private gathering and, in keeping with her wishes, there will be no public services. They ask that those who were touched by this beautiful woman’s life, please consider becoming an organ donor, giving the gift of hope to the thousands of individuals awaiting organ transplants. A special thank you is extended to the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and to Dr. Gerald Weinhouse for the care and compassion shown to Nancy throughout her illness. Nancy’s final wishes have been entrusted to her longtime friend, Don Applegate, and to Martin L.
