LITTLE FALLS - Florene Ida Gogolin Burkdorf, of State Route 167, Little Falls, N.Y. entered into eternal rest peacefully on August 31, 2016 at the Alpine Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Little Falls, N.Y. She was born on August 1, 1933 in Scranton, PA., daughter of Herman Ferdinand Gogolin and Ida Frances Sekol Gogolin. On November 24, 1960 she was joined in marriage with Earl Oliver Burkdorf at the Hillcrest Methodist Church in Hillcrest, N.Y. Florene enjoyed many activities in the local communities, as well as gardening, taking care of family pets, and researching family genealogy. In 1951, she graduated from North Senior High in Binghamton, N.Y. She was a graduate of SUNY Cortland in 1955 with a degree in Elementary Education. Florene was a teacher and librarian in the Canastota, N.Y., Fort Plain, N.Y., Canajoharie, N.Y., and St. Johnsville, N.Y. school districts after college. Later, she worked for many years on the family dairy farm. As a home health aide for Catholic Charities, Florene assisted many families with in-home health care. She was a volunteer with the historic sites of Fort Klock and the General Herkimer Home. Florene was an active volunteer and member of the Dolgeville-Manheim Historical Society and was very involved in the Dolgeville Methodist Church. Florene is survived by her husband Earl Burkdorf; her children, a daughter Sarah Burkdorf, a son Peter Burkdorf and his wife Erica, a stepdaughter Carol Wieczenski and her husband Walter, and a stepson Gary Burkdorf; her sister Kristen Fotorny and her husband Philip; a nephew Scott Fotorny and his wife Tracey; a niece Julianne Reidy and her husband Joseph; her many grandchildren; cousins; and many friends. She is predeceased by a stepdaughter Sharon Vosburgh, and a stepson Roger Burkdorf; and her beloved cat Grit. Donations in her name may be made to the Herkimer County Human Society of Mohawk, N.Y. or the United Methodist Church of Dolgeville, N.Y.
