Obituary of Alfred "Alfie" L. Dygert

Jordanville – Alfred “Alfie” L. Dygert, age 40, of Kingdom Rd., Jordanville, died unexpectedly on Friday, September 23, 2016, as a result of a motorcycle accident in the Town of Warren. He was born on August 11, 1976, in Ilion, the son of Alfred Dygert and Dianna (Bluett) Dygert, and attended Mohawk schools. At one time, Mr. Dygert was employed as a machinist at Helmont Mills in St. Johnsville. “Alfie” loved gardening, plants and flowers. He enjoyed hiking, fishing, hunting and riding motorcycles. Surviving family members include his father, Alfred Dygert and his wife, Myra, of Mohawk; his mother, Dianna (Dygert) Gannon and her husband, John, of Herkimer; maternal grandmother, Helen Bluett, of Herkimer; paternal grandmother, Edna Dygert, of Herkimer; his children, Jade Dygert and Paiton Dygert, of St. Johnsville; his fiancee, Michelle Hubiak, with whom he resided; his stepsister, Jessica Smith; his stepbrothers, Mike and Bobby Fregin; his brother-in-law, Scott Zoeckler, of Canastota; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and very close friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Sonia (Dygert) Zoeckler; his maternal grandfather, Danford Bluett; his paternal grandfather, Edward Dygert; his uncle, Doug Dygert; and his cousin, Leah Holtz. “Alfie’s” Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger facility located at 4309 Acme Rd. (old Main St.), between Ilion and Frankfort. Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, September 29, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home on 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion-Frankfort. Anyone wishing to share a memory of “Alfie”, or add to his online memorial, may go to www.applegateandday.com. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Rescue Mission of Utica, 212 Rutger St., Utica, NY 13501-3618. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. The Dygert family has entrusted “Alfie’s” service arrangements and supervision to their family Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
