Obituary of Priscilla "Kitty" Dack

ILION – Priscilla “Kitty” Dack, age 77, of Shull St., Ilion, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2016, after a long illness, with her family by her side. She was born on April 29, 1939, in Gardner, MA, the daughter of Frederick Cormier and Georgianna (St. Hiliere) Cormier, and graduated from Gardner High School. On January 4, 1958, she was married to Kenneth “Ken” Dack, Jr. in Gardner, MA. In her early years, Kitty was the owner-operator of the Colonial Charm Boutique in Ilion and was a hairdresser / cosmetologist. She was also administrative assistant for both Congressman Donald Mitchell and Congressman Sherwood Boehlert. At one time, she was secretary to Larry Delgrego, Sr., who specialized in Remington and Parker shotguns and rifles. Later she was administrative assistant at both Mohawk Valley General Hospital, Ilion, and St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. Most recently, she was assistant to the Vice President of Instruction at MVCC, Utica, retiring in 2011. Kitty was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. Mrs. Dack was active in various quilt and sewing groups throughout the Mohawk Valley and Remsen. Kitty was a seamstress who made many wedding gowns. She enjoyed doing floral arrangements and crafts. She was also a former member of the Ilion Garden Club. Surviving family members include her husband, Ken; her daughters, Michele Wilson and her husband, Dave, of E. Alton, IL, and Kelly Dack Swienton, of Utica; her son, Michael Dack and his wife, Lisa, of Waterford, NY; seven grandchildren, Paul Dack and fiancee, Katie Hong, Jennifer Lankford and her husband, Chad, Julie Parnell, Stephanie LeClaire and her husband, Geoffrey, Christopher Swienton and his wife, Julianne, Michael Swienton and Samantha Swienton; seven great-grandchildren, Jude, Grant and Arabel Lankford, Parker and Jackson Parnell, Abigail Swienton and Ariana LeClaire; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Theresa Anderson; and her brother, Ronald Cormier. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original home at 102 West St., Ilion. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 30, 2016, at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Leo Potvin, assisted by Deacon Jim Bower. Interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Anyone wishing to share a memory of Kitty, or add to her online memorial, may go to www.applegateandday.com. The family wishes to thank Valley Health Services, St. Luke’s Hospital PCU, SCU, sixth floor oncology nurses and staff, as well as her friends and co-workers who have supported her and her family throughout her illness. The Dack family and the Applegate family have been close friends for many, many years. Ken has entrusted Kitty’s service arrangements and supervision to Funeral Director and longtime friend, Don Applegate, at the Applegate-Day & Enea family Funeral Home at 102 West St., Ilion, where Ken worked for over sixty years and was considered as family.
