Obituary of Patricia "Pat" A. Bechard

ILION – Patricia “Pat” A. Bechard, age 86, formerly of 91 N. Fourth Ave., Ilion, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 3, 2016, at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion, with her family by her side. She was born on March 28, 1930, in Ilion, the daughter of Raymond and Marion (Fenwick) Willoughby, and graduated from Ilion High School in 1947. Pat was married to Leo R. “Bob” Bechard on October 8, 1949, at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. He died on January 1, 2005. In her early years, she was employed as a nurse’s aide at Mohawk Valley General Hospital, Ilion, and later was employed at MDS. Most recently, she was employed at Herkimer County Dept. of Social Services as a data processor for over twenty years. Pat was a member of the Church of the Annunciation. In her early years, she enjoyed bowling and motorcycling with her husband, Bob, on their 1947 Indian Chief. She also enjoyed camping and swimming. Pat was on the board of Foothills Girl Scout Council and was a Hospice volunteer. She was very skilled in knitting and crocheting. Pat and Bob enjoyed spending winters at Myrtle Beach for many years. Pat was a dedicated homemaker and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Surviving family members include five children, Cynthia “Cindy” Speranza and her husband, Anthony, of Ilion, Gail Mount, of Oklahoma, Brad Bechard and companion, Carol, of Ilion, Dean Bechard and his wife, Carol, of Ilion, and Brooke Redmond and her husband, Steven, of Lee Center; her cherished grandchildren, Anthony Speranza and his wife, Megan, Amy (Mount) Bobo and her husband, Brad, Aaron and Sean Mount, Eric Bechard, Dean “Rob” Bechard and his wife, Kerri, Jessica Martin, Steven, Elizabeth, Daniel and Dylan Redmond, and Michelle Santillo; great-grandchildren, Ryann and Bryce Bobo, Kianna, Isiah, Adrianna and Alanna Santillo, Cadence Speranza, Aubrey and Derek Martin, Kamryn Redmond, and Jackson Bechard; sisters-in-law, Ann Davis, of Rome, and Julia Soules, of Ilion; brother-in-law, Jay Goodman, of Ilion; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, including special cousins, Ann Seymour and Betty and Fred Kenyon. She was predeceased by her husband, “Bob”, and brother, Robert Willoughby. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West St., Ilion. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the conclusion of calling hours at the funeral home at 102 West St., Ilion, with Pastor Brian Engel, of the Mohawk Reformed Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Anyone wishing to share a memory of Pat, or add to her online memorial, may go to www.applegateandday.com.
