Obituary of Julia Battisti

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Julia Battisti, died at the age of 92 on Friday morning October 7, 2016 at Homelife at Folts in Herkimer. She was born July 25, 1924 in St. Johnsville, the daughter of the late Onofri and Tekla (Noberezna) Bilobrowka and was educated in St. Johnsville schools. She was a lifelong resident of the St. Johnsville area. Her marriage to Americo Battisti took place on April 7, 1945 at St. Patrick’s Church in St. Johnsville by Rev. M.T. Scully. Julia and her husband Americo owned and operated the Battisti Farm on Thumb Road in St. Johnsville for 50 years together. Throughout the years, Julia also had worked with Luxuray Mills in Fort Plain as well as Felt Shoe in St. Johnsville. Julia was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church in St. Johnsville and a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Community in Fort Plain. Her family fondly remembers Julia’s happiest moments polka dancing and playing cards, especially rummy and pitch. She also enjoyed the challenge of jigsaw puzzles. Survivors include three sons, Edward Battisti (Doris) of Millbrook, Alabama, Michael Battisti (Libby) of St. Johnsville, and William Battisti of Schenectady, NY; a daughter, Eileen (James) Katovitch of Fort Plain; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Americo on Oct. 1, 1997; her parents, and sisters, Mary Wadin and Anne Tolfa and a brother, John Bilobrowka. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 115 Reid Street in Fort Plain, NY where her Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Very Reverend Christopher Welch. Burial will follow at St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call AT THE CHURCH on Monday morning, one hour prior to the funeral Mass from 9 until 10 AM. All memorial contributions may be made to the St. Johnsville Fire Department or the H.C. Smith Benefit Club.
