Obituary of Marie Florine Wagner

MOHAWK: Marie Florine Wagner, age 64, known to friends and family as “Florine”, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8th, 2016 at her home. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by the love of her family, her two cats, Molly and Sophie, her fish, Louie, and her favorite music. She was born in Quebec, Canada, and raised by her parents the late Julius and Theresa Wagner in Poughkeepsie, NY. Those celebrating her life include her soulmate, Tom Bernier; her daughters, Jessica (Sean) Shea, Amanda (Ben) Johannssen-Smith, and Robyn Johannssen; as well as her grandchildren, Ethan and Hayden Shea, and many close friends, and surviving relatives. Florine attended Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, FL where she studied Zoology. She fulfilled her passion for animals by working at an animal sanctuary in New Jersey where she had fond memories of working with her favorite lion, elephant and monkey. After moving to the Mohawk Valley, she spent many years working for Ponderosa, and later she moved on to touch the lives of the residents at Valley Health Services, where she worked in dietary and cared for the residents, as only she could. Florine will be remembered for living her life as a free spirit; giving her love and touching the hearts of all her many friends, and those who loved her. She took joy in the simplest things in life that most of us may not ever see. She had a smile that lit up the world and beautiful blue eyes that could see into your soul. She lived her life on her own terms and did her best to keep it that way. She gave of herself freely and generously to anyone or anything in need. Even on her worse day, Florine could be seen picking a flower just to make someone else’s day. Her quick, witty sense of humor, Robin William’s-like personality, and joy for life was infectious. She had a unique ability to make anyone smile, and a laugh that was truly all her own. She was known for her “Florine-isms” including, “Don’t make me break out my flying monkeys!!” and “Oh go fly a kite!” Her joys in life were on the back of a Harley with her Tom, walking through the woods, and finding happiness just sitting by a creek. She had a love for music, trees, rocks and people. She captured the energy and essence of life and all it had to offer. If there was ever a good storm, Florine could be found dancing in the rain. The family would like to thank the dedicated doctors, nurses, and medical staff at Faxton- St. Luke’s Health Care, the Cancer Treatment Center, as well as her Hospice and Palliative Care teams for the love and support they gave during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice or AdCare; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. We ask that in her memory, you appreciate the small moments in life, live life with more kindness and love, and give a smile to someone in need. The world sure could use a few more Florines! Memorial visitation will be held on Monday, October 17th, 2016 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Enea Family Funeral Home (F.K.A. Holleran Funeral Service), 220 N.
