Obituary of Jane Barbara (Barb) Wardzinski

FRANKFORT - Jane Barbara (Barb) Wardzinski passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016 at Faxton St. Luke’s Hospital. Barb was born on March 25, 1938 in Frankfort to her late parents Julius (Doc) and Sophie Szapiel Wardzinski. She was a lifelong resident of Frankfort, raised and educated in Frankfort and graduated from Frankfort High School. As a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Barb worked over 30 years for the New York Telephone Company, initially as a telephone operator in Ilion and then in the office performing printing and copy production in Utica. Throughout her life, she completed many oil paintings and ceramic sculptures. Barb loved to garden and enjoyed feeding and watching birds (and squirrels). Barb was a dog enthusiast and was often seen around Frankfort walking her beloved Yorkies - Kuddles, Pookie and Herqlees, her companions that she loved dearly. She is survived by her Uncle Thomas and his wife Peggy Gniewek from Camden Tennessee; her Uncle John Gniewek from Phoenix Arizona; and her Aunt Eleanor Szapiel from Gaithersburg, Maryland. Her Uncle Stanley Szapiel and Aunt Paula Gniewek precede her in death. She is also survived by her first cousins Mary Ellen Szapiel-Whittington, Dr. Susan Szapiel, Cecilia Szapiel-Williams, Stan Szapiel, Ricky Gniewek, Elaine Gniewek-West, Thomas Gniewek, Linda Gniewek-Oesterles, Richard Gniewek, Mike Gniewek, and her many second cousins including Sara Camm and Nichole Williams who liked to visit her in Frankort. We all share very fond memories of Barb (our “senior” cousin) when we were small and enjoyed Frankfort family reunions during the holidays and vacations during the summer. Our family would like to acknowledge the soft touch and inspirational caregiving provided to Barb in her home by Cecile Ngumah over the past 18 months. Friends, neighbors and relatives are invited to attend Barb’s visitation on Saturday afternoon, November 5, 2016 from 1:00PM – 3:00PM at the Enea and Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road (Town of Frankfort), Ilion, NY (315)894-8000. A memorial funeral service will commence at 3:00PM immediately upon the conclusion of visitation with Sr. Mary Jo Tallman officiating. Burial will take place at the Oak View Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Barney’s Angels on Reese Road in Frankfort, 315-525-3330, or www.barneysangelsdogsitters.com. Her funeral arrangements are with Funeral Directors Harry J. & Kevin E. Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia. Online condolences may be left at www.eneafamily.com on the Internet.
