MOHAWK - Mrs. Dorothy M. “Dot” McKenna, age 89, formerly of Charles Street, Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, November 6, 2016, at Valley Health Services in Herkimer. Born on August 12, 1927, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Henry and Anna (Fiegenbutz) Buddenhagen. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Mohawk High School. On May 1, 1948, Dorothy was wed to Mr. Edward J. McKenna, and as a couple, they shared in 66 years of a devoted and blessed marriage. Ed passed away on November 20, 2014, and for the past two years, Dot has held his memory close to her heart. For some years, Dot worked as a clerk in the business office of Mohawk High School, and then as a bookkeeper with Mohawk Valley Economic Development. First and foremost, however, was always her family, and nothing gave her more joy than time spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a longtime parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church. Surviving family members include her daughter, Laurie Bradley, PHD, and husband, William, of Troy; her sons, Thomas McKenna and Elaine Burn, of State College, PA, and Michael McKenna and his wife, Connie, of Sommers, CT; her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Daniel Bradley, Ashley Munoz and her husband, Michael, and Sean McKenna; her brother-in-law, John McKenna, of Atlanta, GA; her sister-in-law, JoAnn Joy, of Ilion; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, William and Craig Buddenhagen. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Dot’s visitation, which will be held on Thursday November 10, 2016, from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West Street, Ilion, NY, (315) 895-7722. Funeral services will commence on Friday morning, November 11, 2016, at 9:30 AM at the Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mark Cunningham, Sacramental Minister, assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, Parish Life Director. Procession will follow to Mohawk Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Ed.
