Obituary of Ronald L. Slack

Mr. Ronald L. “Ron” Slack, age 66, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away on Friday morning, November 4, 2016, at the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, surrounded by the love and support of his family at his side. Born on August 19, 1950, Ronald was the son of the late Leighton and Mabel (Davis) Slack. He also knew the love and guidance of his stepfather, Daniel Ferguson. He was raised and educated locally and was a graduate of Mohawk High School. On November 6, 1982, Ron was joined in marriage with the former Barbara Spellicy, and the two would have celebrated 34 years together, this past Sunday. Ron was employed with Remington Arms for over 34 years as an assembler and machinist, up until his retirement in 2005. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. Nothing gave him more pleasure than camping with his family on Peck’s Lake, and being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the East Herkimer Fish and Game and the UMWA. Survivors include his beloved wife, Barb; his daughter, Shannon Slack; his sons, Ronald L. Slack, Jr. and Michael J. Slack; numerous grandchildren; his sisters, Mary Ann, Jean, Patricia and Linda; his brothers, Robert and John; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Joyce Spellicy and his in-laws, Val and Jeff Strife. He was predeceased by his brother, David Ferguson. Ron’s family bid their farewells at his bedside and in keeping with his wishes there will be no public funeral services. Those wishing to do so are asked to consider memorial contributions to a charity of one’s choice. All service arrangements have been entrusted to Don Applegate and Martin L.
