ILION – Laura Harriet (Kirkey) Acquaviva, age 90, of Ilion, formerly of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2016, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, after a brief illness. She was born on November 15, 1925, in Massena, NY, the daughter of Albert and Nettie (Travse) Kirkey. In 1943, she graduated from Herkimer High School. On October 6, 1951, she was married to Frank Acquaviva at the First Methodist Church in Herkimer. He died on March 7, 2008. Laura was employed as the office manager at F.E. Hale Mfg. Co. for 27 years, retiring in December 1987. Mrs. Acquaviva was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer and a former member of the O.E.S. Myrtle Chapter #148 of Herkimer. Surviving family members include her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Dorothy Acquaviva, of Abingdon, MD; her granddaughter, Crystal Rose Acquaviva, of Offton, Suffolk-United Kingdom; her grandson, Chris James Acquaviva, of Tamuning, Guam; her brother, Glenford Kirkey, of Ilion; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, in 2008; her mother, Nettie, in 1968; her father, Albert, in 1945; her brothers, Ronald Francis, in 1966, and Leslie Francis, in 1980; her sisters, Esther Kirkey, in 1932, Florence Lemen, in 1971, Edna Brink, in 1984, and Alice Mossow, in 2005. Calling hours are Thursday, November 10, 2016, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West St., Ilion. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 11, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home at 102 West St., Ilion, with Rev. Janet Gleason, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer, officiating. Interment will follow at Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion, next to her husband, Frank.
