Obituary of David "Dave" T. Sweeney

ILION – David “Dave” T. Sweeney, age 62, of State Route 51 (Ilion Gorge), Town of Litchfield, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at home. He was born on August 4, 1954, in Ilion, the son of John F. and Arletta M. (Armstrong) Sweeney, and attended Ilion schools. On August 9, 1986, he was married to Donna Hayes, in Frankfort. Dave was the owner and operator of DTS Service for over 20 years, retiring in 1994. He donated much of his time to helping animals. The biggest part of Dave’s life was spending time with his family. Surviving family members include his wife, Donna; his children, Ryan D. Sweeney and Kaitlyn M. Sweeney; three brothers, Kenneth Sweeney and his wife, T.J., of New Jersey, Terry Sweeney, of Vermont, and Jack Sweeney and his wife, Sandy, of Newport, NY; one sister, Deborah Tennant, of Piseco Lake, NY; his uncle, Loren Sweeney, of Ilion; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West St., Ilion. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016, at 5:00 p.m., immediately following visitation at the funeral home on 102 West St., Ilion, with Father Paul Catena, Pastor of the Church of the Annunciation, officiating. Interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Anyone wishing to share a memory of Dave, or add to his online memorial, may go to www.applegateandday.com. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Donna Sweeney, 1773 State Route 51, Ilion, NY 13357. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. The Sweeney family entrusted Dave’s service arrangements and supervision to their Family Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
