Obituary of Jean Irene Peterson

Jean Irene (Mueller) Peterson, age 87, most recently of Austin, Texas, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016, at Brodie Ranch Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on January 4, 1929, in Canajoharie, New York, and was the daughter of Earl Vosburgh and Ethel (Vosburgh) Wasserman. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School. After high school, she worked for Beech-Nut in Canajoharie. She also spent a short time in Barbizon Modeling School in New York City and some time with her mother in Florida before returning to Canajoharie where she met and married Richard P. Mueller of St. Johnsville on July 2, 1949. She spent many years raising her family and building the family farm business at Fort Klock Farm, where she and “Buddy” raised registered Holstein cattle. She was active in the church community at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. Johnsville, where she sang for some years in the church choir. She also participated with her husband and other family members in the restoration of the historic Fort Klock. Upon the unexpected death of her beloved husband on July 26, 1971, Jean continued run the farm until she was unable to do so any longer. She sold the farm and moved with her two younger children to be near family in Altadena, California, in 1972. There she took a position as a receptionist for the Fuller Evangelical Association and became a member of the Lake Avenue Congregational Church in Pasadena, where she met and then married Ragnar “Tom” Peterson. Soon after, the Petersons moved back to New York. Over the years they moved around to be near children and family. Jean eventually moved to be near her daughter in Austin and resided in that area until her death. Jean is also preceded in death by her husband Tom, her son Richard, Jr., her sisters Beatrice Voght, Gladys Birdsong, Norma Wells, and recently Marion Stevens, as well as her brother Earl Vosburgh, Jr. Jean is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Kuryak of Austin and Mary Beth McDonough of Alfred Station, NY; and two sons, James and Margot Mueller of Delray Beach, Florida, and Jon and Lauri Jo Mueller of Frisco, Texas; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 2, at the St. Johnsville Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Harry J. and Kevin E. Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, in St. Johnsville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Phoenix Rising Therapeutic Services LCSW, PC (5295 East Valley Rd, Alfred Station, NY 14803) or a charity of your choice.
