Obituary of Michael J. Davis

MOHAWK - Mr. Michael J. "Mike" Davis, age 39, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 14, 2016, after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in September. At the time of his passing, which occurred at the Bassett Healthcare Center in Cooperstown, Mike was surrounded by the love and support of his devoted family at his bedside. Born on May 3, 1977, in Herkimer, Michael is the son of Thomas W. “Bill” and Mary A. (Luppino) Davis. He was raised and educated in Mohawk, graduating with the Class of 1996. It was during his high school years that Mike attended the automotive program at BOCES and further developed his passion for cars. He worked for a few years at the Mohawk Big M Supermarket, as well as at Orion Bus Industries and Utica Boilers, before establishing his own business, M J Auto Repair, in Mohawk in 2004. For twelve years he spent every day as an honest, trustworthy and talented mechanic who took great pride in the vehicles he serviced, as well as the customers who put their faith in him. On May 8, 2004, Mike was married to the former Karlee Brown of Ilion, and the couple established their life together. They went on to have two beautiful children, and Mike fulfilled his duties as a wonderful husband and doting father; there was nothing that he wouldn’t do for his wife or children. When Mike wasn’t working in the garage, mowing lawns, blowing snow, building projects or fixing something, he was spending time with his family. His home was his castle, and his children were his world. He proudly took them fishing, camping, bike riding, snowmobiling, and, most recently, four-wheeling. Mike will forever be remembered as a kind and humble man’s man, who would do anything for anyone, without ever complaining about it. He held a love for music, especially for playing his guitar with his brother, and had a fondness for the Beatles and the Ventures. He was physically strong with a soft spot for those who he loved, and his presence will be missed but never forgotten. He is survived by his wife of twelve years, Karlee Davis; his daughter, Julia Rosemary (10) and son, John Joseph (7); his parents, Bill and Mary of Mohawk; his brother and sister-in-law, Christopher and Lisa Davis of Whitesboro; his aunts and uncle, Linda Wood and Betty Davis, both of Mohawk, Robert and Jean Davis of Fort Plain and Great-Aunt Rose Marie Blair of Dolgeville; his parents-in-law, Heidi and Jim Benson of Ilion and Robert Brown of Mohawk; his in-laws, Erika Benson of Clinton, Brooke Benson-Tubia and Caleb Tubia of Ilion, Matthew Brown and Daniel Brown, both of Clinton, and Michael Brown of Rome; his nephew, Benson Tubia; and his niece, Mira Tubia. Mike also leaves behind numerous cousins and many amazing friends that he made throughout his life, especially Jeremy and Melissa Smithson. Other special friends include Howie, Rob, Chris, Joe, Mike, Jay, Dan, Roland and Pete. Mike was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Thomas S. and Jane H. Davis and his maternal grandmother, Mary "Carm" Luppino. He was also predeceased by his paternal grandfather and best friend growing up, John Joseph Luppino, who was instrumental in Mike's desire to become a mechanic and run his own garage. The two shared in an incredibly close and special bond, and it is a comfort to Mike's family that he is once again reunited with his beloved "Papa". The Davis family is forever appreciative to the staff of the Bassett Healthcare Center for the kindness, compassion and concern shown to their family and to Mike throughout his illness. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Mike's visitation, which will take place on Monday, December 19, 2016, from 3:00PM - 7:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to the Friends of Bassett Healthcare Network, 1 Atwell Road, Cooperstown, NY 13326. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mike's funeral service will commence on Tuesday morning, December 20, 2016, at 9:30AM from the chapel of the funeral home and at 10:30AM at the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion, where Mike's Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Paul Catena, Pastor. Burial will take place in the spring in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Martin L. Ciaccia and Harry J. and Kevin E. Enea, Funeral Directors of the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Online notes of sympathy can be made at www.eneafamily.com.
