ILION – Susan Lynn Cotton, age 53, passed away unexpectedly, after a brief illness, on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, NY. She was born on October 18, 1963, in New Hartford, NY, the daughter of Thomas and Charlotte (King) Shumway, and attended Poland Central School. Susan was married to Carl A. Cotton, Jr., on January 14, 1995, in Little Falls, NY. At one time, she was employed as CNA at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion, for 13 years. She later became Shift Supervisor at the Ilion McDonalds for 5 years, where she has been currently employed. As a member of the First Baptist Church of Ilion, she has been serving as a Deacon. Susan was also a Girl Scout Leader of Troop #20857. She is survived by her loving husband, Carl, of Ilion; one daughter, Brianna Cotton, at home; her parents, Thomas and Charlotte Shumway, of Cold Brook, NY; mother-in-law, Leona Comes, of Ilion; father-in-law, Carl Cotton, Sr., and wife, Jan, of Cedarville, NY; brother, Thomas W. Shumway, of VA; aunt and uncle, Pat and Darwin King, of Clinton; aunt, Ann Hill, of Herkimer; aunt, Eva King, of Utica; two sisters and brothers-in law, Christine and Douglas Combs, of Ilion, and Nicole and Richard Rose, of Mohawk; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Calvin and Laura Cotton, of Michigan, Shawn and Melissa Cotton, of Whitesboro, and Matthew and Leanne Cotton, of Cedarville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Darrell James Shumway, on February 23, 2016. Friends and relatives are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West St., Ilion. Susan’s Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held immediately following visitation on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home on 102 West St., Ilion, with Pastor John Partise, of the Ilion First Baptist Church, officiating.
