Obituary of Barbara M. Youker

HERKIMER - Ms. Barbara M. (Graham) Youker, age 81, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, January 23, 2017, in the privacy and comfort of her home. As she came to the end of her earthly journey, she had the love and blessings of her devoted family at her bedside. Born on November 10, 1935, Barbara was the daughter of the late Joseph K. and Marie J. (Peltier) Graham. She was raised and educated in Herkimer and attended local schools. Barbara was a hardworking woman who spent time as a waitress and a cook at various locales throughout the Mohawk Valley. Her duties as mother, however, were always her first and foremost priority, and she spent her life caring for her children. Barb was of the old-school mentality that believed in the ideals of tough love and respect. She was never afraid to put her children in their place when they needed it, all the while being their number one supporter. She served as caregiver to her oldest daughter, Kim, for many years and took on that role with a sense of grace, never complaining about life's challenges. Her honesty, integrity and devotion to family are all traits that she will forever be remembered for by her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her sons, James P. "Jim" Smith of Herkimer and David S. "Dave" Youker of Seward, Nebraska; her daughter, Cindy Smith of Herkimer; her grandchildren, Zane Youker, Jimmy Grower, Chad Grower, Isabella Smith and Lily Smith; as well as several great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters and brothers-in-law, JoAnne and Allan Maine of Mohawk and Bonnie Leigh and Chipper Bennett of Cedarville; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth Graham of Virginia, William and Dar Graham of Arkansas, Donald and Judy Graham of Virginia and Thomas Graham of Mohawk; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Kim Marie Smith on June 9, 2015; and her younger brother, PFC Richard F. Graham, KIA, Vietnam. In keeping with Barb's wishes, her family bid their farewells in a private gathering. Burial will take place in the spring in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where she will be laid to rest beside her daughter. All funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer (315) 866-1011.
