Obituary of William E. Mogensen, Sr.

ILION – Mr. William E. Mogensen, Sr., age 89, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, February 5, 2017, at the Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Born on December 11, 1927, William was the son of the late Harold P. Sr. and Mary (Dorn) Mogensen. He was raised and educated locally and was a graduate of Ilion High School with the Class of 1945. Upon completion of his education, William enlisted with the United States Army Air Corps and proudly served his nation until his honorable discharge in 1946. In July of 1947, he was married to the former Barbara Jean Briggs in Frankfort and together they raised a family for 22 years until Barbara’s untimely passing in 1969. On July 21, 1974, William was blessed to share in a second union with the former Ona J. (Franklin) Scialdone, and as a couple they spent over 42 blessed years together. William was a hardworking man who spent a 38-year career as a Pricing Analyst with the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. in Utica from October of 1949 until his retirement in October of 1987. He was organized, proficient and detail-oriented, not only in his work, but also in his personal life, where he kept an impeccable home, both inside and out. He enjoyed gardening, trimming trees and taking care of his lawns, and most importantly, he loved any time that was spent with his family. His great sense of humor and one-of-a-kind personality will never be forgotten. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ona; his sons, William E. Mogensen, Jr. of Pennsylvania and Brad W. Mogensen and his wife, Vicki of Ilion; his stepchildren, Sam Scialdone and his wife, Susan of Forestport, Mark A. Scialdone of Herkimer and Felecia Burchett and her husband, Howard of Queen Creek, Arizona; his brother, Joseph Mogensen of Ilion; his sister, Mary “Honey” Rivard and her husband, Robert of Massachusetts; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his stepson, James Scialdone, Sr. in 1991; his grandson, Sgt. Robert Mogensen, a member of the Special Forces and Green Beret who gave his life in service to his country in Afghanistan in 2004; his brothers, Arthur Mogensen and Harold Mogensen, Jr.; and his sister, Louise LaGoy. Friends and relatives are invited to attend William’s visitation, which will be held on Wednesday afternoon, February 8, 2017 from 3:00PM – 5:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion (Town of Frankfort) NY (315) 894-8000.
