Joshua Hogeboom

Obituary of Joshua W. Hogeboom

Joshua Wayne Hogeboom, age 34, who fought a long battle with addiction, passed away on Saturday evening, February 25, 2017, after succumbing to the powerful hold of his disease. Born on October 12, 1982 in Amsterdam, Joshua is the son of Kent and Deborah (Talbot) Hogeboom. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from Owen D. Young High School and attending Hudson Valley Community College. After his schooling, Joshua went on to enlist with the United States Coast Guard and proudly served his country as a seaman and gunner’s mate. Josh was a skilled outdoorsman and as an “adrenaline junkie” he enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, hunting, fishing and had a true passion for firearms. Nothing, however, brought him more joy than his children, and being a father was truly the highpoint of his life. He leaves his wife, Shantel (Dillingham) Hogeboom of Fulton; his beloved daughters, Vaida and Kaileeanna; his stepson, Raiden; his parents, Kent and Deborah of Mohawk; his paternal grandmother, Nancy Hogeboom of Cobleskill; his sister and brother-in-law, Amanda and Jacob Guilfoyle of Mohawk; his niece, Adalyn; his nephew, William; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, too numerous to mention. Joshua was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Charles Hogeboom, and his maternal grandparents, John and Annabelle Talbot. The family extends their utmost gratitude to the Parker House Aftercare Program at the Utica Rescue Mission and to the Salvation Army for providing Joshua with a reliable and supportive recovery community at times when he needed it most. It is their belief that his time on this earth was furthered by the love and compassion that he received while in their care. A memorial service in celebration of Joshua’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 12:00 NOON at the Calvary Gospel Church, 300 Main Street, New York Mills. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Martin L. Ciaccia and Harry and Kevin Enea, Funeral Directors of the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000.
