Obituary of Donald D. "Don" Jones

UTICA – Mr. Donald D. “Don” Jones, age 87, a longtime Utica resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, March 19, 2017, on the feast of St. Joseph, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Born on December 9, 1929, in Nanticoke, PA, Donald was the son of the late Orwig and Ruth (Wermouth) Jones. As a child, he knew the love and guidance of his grandmother, Jane Jones. He was raised and educated in Utica and graduated from Utica Free Academy. On November 12, 1949, he was joined in marriage to the former Yolanda A. Pandolfi at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. The two shared a blessed and devoted union of over 68 years. Don was a hardworking man, whose career as a machinist with Chicago Pneumatic spanned over 32 years. He also served as both President and Treasurer of the Chicago Pneumatic Credit Union. When he wasn’t working, Don enjoyed being outdoors. Fishing on the St. Lawrence River, hunting, and golfing with friends, were among a few of his favorite past times. In addition, Don was an accomplished craftsman. His keen eye for detail and perfection stood out in his many woodworking and furniture making projects over the years. He spent countless hours crafting unique Adirondack furniture pieces for his family’s camps in Old Forge. Don's solace was found between his time spent with family and friends up north during the summer, and winters in Florida with his wife and family. Above all, Don’s greatest joy in life came from his family. He loved spending time with his wife, daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were always of the utmost importance to him. The life lessons and values that he taught, and passed on to his family will remain with them throughout their lives. Don leaves behind his loving wife, Yolanda; his daughters and son-in-laws, Sandra and Frank Trevisani, Donna and Don Zalatan; his grandchildren, Chad and Kimberly Trevisani, Jeffrey and Rebecca Trevisani, Ashley and Matthew Hayes, Allison and Kevin Gates, Kayla Zalatan and Krista Zalatan; his great-grandchildren, Frankie, Devin, Claire, Hannah and Kevin; his sister-in-law, Marie Pandolfi; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Don’s funeral service and Celebration of Life, which will commence on Friday morning, March 24, 2017 at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Joseph Salerno, Pastor. Don’s family will receive visitors at the conclusion of mass. Don’s family is forever grateful to Dr. Booth and his staff, as well as their angels from Hospice, Irene and Lisa, for the amazing care shown to him throughout the last part of his life’s journey. In lieu of floral arrangements, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413 in Don's memory. Envelopes will be available at the church. All service arrangements have been entrusted to Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors of the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.eneafamily.com.
