Obituary of Barbara A Cristman

MOHAWK – Mrs. Barbara A. Cristman, age 74, of the Town of Stark, passed away on Sunday morning, May 14, 2017, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. She lived just long enough to see one last Mother’s Day, a role that was the most important to her throughout her life.

Born on May 22, 1942, Barbara was the daughter of the late Theodore and Charlotte (Bogess) Fiedler. She was raised and educated locally and was a graduate from Herkimer High School. On August 28, 1970, Barb was wed to the late David “Joe” Cristman, and the two shared in a devoted union of over 33 years, until Joe’s passing on January 1, 2004.

Barb’s first and foremost priority in life was the upbringing of her son, Michael. The two shared in a remarkable bond and Barb was so proud of her son’s accomplishments, always providing him with stability, love and support. In turn, as Barb grew older, Mike was there for her in every way possible, always making sure she was cared for and loved.

Barb truly enjoyed the simple things of this world, enjoying nature and being outdoors. She had a fondness for hummingbirds, was an avid gardener, and spent a lot of time fishing and by the pool. Many would remember her from her working days as a cashier with Dollar General in Little Falls.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Susan Cristman of Mohawk; her grandsons, William and Matthew Cristman, who were her pride and joy; her sisters and brother-in-law, Linda Given and Amy and Rubben Harvey; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Judy Fiedler; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Rosemary Waterman and Dorothy Nestle.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Barbara’s calling hours, which will take place on Friday, May 19, 2017, from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 894-8000. Her funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 6:00PM at the funeral home, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation.

For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, a charity which was so near and dear to Barb’s heart.

All funeral arrangements and supervision have been entrusted to Martin L. Ciaccia and Harry and Kevin Enea, Funeral Directors.
