Obituary of Fred L. "Roy" Kane

SCHUYLER – Mr. Fred L. “Roy” Kane, age 91, a lifelong resident of Schuyler, passed away on May 16, 2017, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Born in Schuyler on September 14, 1925, Fred was the son of the late Fred and Ruth (Williams) Kane. He attended Schuyler and Frankfort schools before enlisting with the United States Navy and proudly serving his country in the South Pacific during WWII.

On October 30, 1948, Fred was married to the former Winifred “Winnie” Hight, and the two shared in over sixty-eight years of marriage, raising their family and operating the family farm on Bush Road in Schuyler. Concurrently, Fred was employed for thirty years, with the United States Postal Service as a Rural Mail Carrier, until his retirement in 1987.

In his later years, he spent time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling, along with his wife. He was a hardworking, honest and caring man who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Winnie; his sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Nancy Kane, and Scott and Sharon Kane, all of Schuyler; his grandsons, Andrew Conley and Brandon Kane; his granddaughters, Rachel Mercurio, Carey Stewart, Dulcie Goodwin and Ruth Bouchard; numerous great-grandchildren; his sister, Esther Goodson; and his son-in-law, William Chapman.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Valerie Chapman; his brothers, Harold Kane and Hamilton Kane; and his sisters, Margaret Ludwig and Ida Doremus.

Friends and relative are invited to attend Fred’s calling hours, which will take place on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger location at 4309 Acme Road, Town of Frankfort, Ilion, NY (315) 895-7722. Fred’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence at 6:00PM at the funeral home, immediately upon the conclusion of visitation.

Fred’s final wishes are being carried out by Don Applegate and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors.
