FRANKFORT/AIKEN, SC – Mrs. Carol Elizabeth (Titus) Maxson, age 85, formerly of Frankfort, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 4, 2017,  in Aiken, South Carolina, where she has resided for the past fourteen years.

Born on February 16, 1932, in Ilion, Carol was the daughter of the late William and Myrtle (Ferguson) Titus. She was raised and educated locally and attended Ilion schools. On November 8, 1947, she was wed to the late Ralph C. Maxson, and the two shared in a marriage spanning almost thirty-seven years, until Mr. Maxson’s passing on November 4, 1984.

Carol was a hardworking and active woman, both in the workplace and in her home life. At one time she was employed with MDS in Herkimer before going on to work as the Computer Operation Manuals Librarian with Blue Cross/ Blue Shield in Utica, a position created for her and from which she retired. Most recently she served as the Activities Director at London Towers in Ilion. She was a member of the Ilion Chapter 31 Women of the Moose and the Mohawk American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary where she was a Gold Star Mother.

At one time she was an avid bowler and enjoyed testing her wits at a good game of Scrabble. For many years, Carol was an active golfer, and at one time was President of the Maple Crest Golf League. She continued the sport well into her golden years, even scoring a hole-in-one in her seventies! After her move south, she served as the President of her Pairs and Squares Club in Aiken, South Carolina. She enjoyed any time that she could spend with her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jayne and Thomas Becker of Aiken, SC; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Rae Maxson of Ilion; her three grandchildren, Stephanie Becker-Call and her husband, Rob, Gretchen Heichberger and her husband, Mark, and David Richard Maxson; her six great-grandchildren, Thomas, Brett, Marinna, Marcus, Garrison and Graeden, and special friend Dawn Dowd.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Richard Maxson in 1968 and her close friends, Kay Sullivan and Norm Wilson.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Carol’s memorial service, which will take place on Monday morning, July 24, 2017, at 10:00AM at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West Street, Ilion, NY (315) 895-7722. Procession will follow to Armory Hill Cemetery where Carol’s remains will be laid to rest with her husband, Ralph and son, Richard.
