Obituary of Robert H. Donlon

ILION – Mr. Robert H. Donlon, age 66, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, July 10, 2017, in the privacy and comfort of his home.

Born on June 12, 1951, Robert was the son of Edward T. Donlon and the late Carolyn Scheehl McLean. He grew up in the Mohawk Valley and spent his later years as a client of the Herkimer ARC.

Robert was a fun-loving and laid back individual. He was polite and well-liked by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He enjoyed being involved in various activities, including shopping, going to the movies, listening to music and singing. He was a Boy Scout, earning several merit badges. He treasured nature, sitting in the gazebo at his home. He loved to travel, and throughout the years has visited Canada, Europe and the Caribbean. Attendance at local fairs and going out to eat were some of his favorite pastimes. In his spare time he liked coloring, doing word hunts, looking at the newspaper or Ranger Rick magazine, and playing the Nintendo Wii. He had many good friends, especially Elaine Davis, whom he enjoyed visiting with; and his family always looked forward to the love-filled cards they would receive from him.

He is survived by a nephew, Edward T. Donlon and his family; his aunt, Janice Pope; his cousins, Timothy Pope (Cheryl),  Jon Pope (Laura), Amy Dievendorf (Ron),  Jan Vosburgh and Mari Vosburgh; and his friend and advocate, Elaine Davis. In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his grandparents, Rev. Luther and Harriet Scheehl, his brothers, Thomas E. Donlon and Richard L. Donlon, his aunt, Adah Vosburgh, and his cousin, Sarah Pope.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service in honor of Robert’s life conducted by Rev. Matt Draffen, on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 11:00AM at the original Enea Family Funeral Home (FKA Holleran Funeral Service), 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer (315) 866-1011. The family will receive visitors from 10:30AM until the start of the service. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Fly Creek Cemetery.

Donations in Robert’s name can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
