Obituary of Rosalie R. "Ro" Marchitelli

HERKIMER – Mrs. Rosalie R. “Ro” Marchitelli, age 73, a lifelong Herkimer resident, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday afternoon, July 8, 2017, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by the love and support of her devoted family at her bedside.

Born on October 3, 1943, Rosalie was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ardina (Cassella) Casale. She was raised and educated locally and was a graduate from Herkimer High School. On October 4, 1969, Rosalie entered into a loving union with Mr. Daniel P. Marchitelli, and together they shared in over 47 years of love, laughter and companionship.

For many years, Ro was employed as a secretary with the St. Elizabeth Medical Center until her retirement in 2009. She enjoyed her work, and after surviving a liver transplant in November of 1986, she truly gave back by providing for the patients she served.

She thoroughly enjoyed making conversation and made all those around her feel warm, welcomed and comfortable. She spent time with her husband, sister, nieces and nephews, shopping, travelling, and testing her luck at the casinos and Saratoga racetrack. While relaxing in her home, she enjoyed the simple solace of the Christian and Hallmark channels on television. She was a giving, caring and kind woman, with a gentle soul and a deep love in her heart for God and for her family.

Rosalie will be sorely missed by her beloved husband, Dan; her sister and best friend, Sylvia (Casale) Madia of Herkimer; her many adoring nieces and nephews, with special mention of her niece and Goddaughter, Dina Sussilleaux and husband, Michael, of Brooklyn; her other cherished Godchildren, Michael Evolo, Jr., Jeff Billman and Patricia Smagin; and her sisters-in-law, Sylvia “Penny” Marchitelli and Janis Marchitelli. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Francis Casale.

Special appreciation is extended to the staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Dr. Fred Talarico and Pat Rosati, Michelle Phillips of Valley Health Services in Herkimer, the staff of Albany Medical Center, Dr. David Shaffer, and Dr. John Angerosa; all went above and beyond in the excellent care shown to Rosalie and her family throughout her illness.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Rosalie’s calling hours, which will take place on Friday evening, July 14, 2017 from 4:00PM – 7:00PM at the original Enea Family Funeral Home (FKA Holleran Funeral Service) 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011. Rosalie’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning, July 15, 2017, at 8:15AM at the funeral home and at 9:00AM at Sts. Anthony & Joseph Church in Herkimer, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Father Quy Vo, Pastor. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where Ro’s earthly body will be laid to rest.

For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions to the Chapel of Divine Mercy, 2 Prospect Hill Road, Stockbridge, MA 01262. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
