Obituary of Ada Larsen Blanchard

HERKIMER – Mrs. Ada Larsen Blanchard, a resident of Valley Health Services, formerly of Herkimer, and New Hartford passed on Friday July 28, 2017 in Herkimer, NY.

Ada was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 9, 1928 to Bruno and Ellen (Miller) Larsen. Her parents were recent immigrants from Denmark and Ada cherished her Danish heritage. She graduated Ben Salem High School and continued to attend reunions throughout her life. She was thrilled to attend the 50th, with her granddaughter Nina. She was employed by the telephone company and thoroughly enjoyed being a career woman, until her marriage to Ralph L. Blanchard on October 13, 1958. She was a devoted wife and mother and grandmother.

She loved travelling and was always looking forward to packing up for her next adventure. She had a special place in her heart for elephants and amassed a large collection of them, and even had an elephant named after her in Africa. She enjoyed golfing and her time with the Herkimer Garden Club.

She is survived by her loving husband Ralph L. Blanchard. Her children Lesa and Lars Blanchard, and their spouses. She also leaves her adored grandchildren Nina Vitalino, Liam Blanchard and Ethan Blanchard. She also leaves her brother Linn Larsen, and his wife Judy and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Ralph Larsen.

We would like to thank the staff at Valley Health Services for their many years of caring service. The family invites friends to The Enea Family Funeral Home (FKA Holleran’s Funeral Parlor) at 220 North Washington Street in Herkimer, NY on Sunday August 6, 2017 to visit with them from 3:15 until 4PM. We will celebrate Ada’s life and conclude the afternoon with a brief intimate funeral prayer service. In lieu of floral offerings, donations could be made to Freedom Guide Dogs, 1210 Hardscrabble Road, Cassville, NY 13318. Envelopes are available at the funeral home for this purpose.

Arrangements have been provided by Funeral Directors Harry J. Enea, Kevin E. Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia. (315) 866-1011. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.eneafamily.com on the Internet.
