Obituary of Joseph J. Putch, Jr.
FRANKFORT/FLORIDA - Mr. Joseph J. Putch, Jr., age 83, a longtime resident of Frankfort and Dunnellon, Florida, passed away early Saturday morning, July 29, 2017, at the Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, after a brief illness.
Born on November 3, 1933 in Frankfort, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph J., Sr. and Angeline (Dunadee) Putch. He was a graduate of Frankfort-Schuyler High School and went on to obtain his Associate’s Degree in Business Management from Herkimer County Community College.
On January 7, 1952, Joseph enlisted with the United States Navy and proudly served our country during the Korean War as a Radioman 3rd Class onboard the USS Purdy (DD-734). Upon his honorable discharge, Joseph was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation.
Joseph was united in marriage to the late Rose M. (Cushman) Putch on April 11, 1953, at St. Mary’s Church in Frankfort by Rev. Michael Fufferd. They shared in over 52 years together until Rose’s passing on October 7, 2005.
Once again, Joe was blessed with love and companionship through his second marriage to Barbara Widger. Together, they enjoyed their winters spent in Florida and any time that they could be surrounded by their families.
As a community-oriented person, Joe held memberships with the American Legion, the Moose Lodge, the VFW Post 502, and the Knights of Columbus Council #8510 St. John Neumann. He was an avid boater and fisherman throughout his life; navigating and fishing the waters of the Saint Lawrence Sea Way near his summer home in Alexandria Bay for more than 50 years.
Joe was blessed with a sharp mind and a healthy body and he lived a long, fulfilling life surrounded by the love and devotion of his beloved family. He leaves a legacy of love, laughter and friendship to all those that he leaves behind.
Survivors include his wife, Barb; his daughter, JudyAnn Love-Carter and her husband, Tim; his daughters-in-law, Kathleen Putch and Karen Putch; his stepchildren, Dorine Widger, David Widger and Carole Woods; his grandchildren, Michelle Putch, Rebecca and J.D.
