Obituary of Ervin E Newberry, Sr.
ILION – Mr. Ervin E. Newberry, Sr., age 84, a longtime Mohawk Valley resident, passed away on Monday afternoon, September 11, 2017. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by the love of his devoted family.
Born on April 26, 1933, Ervin was the son of the late Jacob and Frances (Hogoboom) Newberry. He also knew the guidance of his late stepfather, Clarence E. Guyer, Sr.
Ervin enlisted with the United States Army on February 13, 1953 and proudly served his country overseas during the Korean Conflict, until his honorable discharge on September 21, 1955. It was almost a year later, on August 25, 1956, that Ervin was wed to the former Betty J. Mead, and the couple shared in a devoted union of over 54 years. Betty passed away on September 20, 2010.
Hardworking by nature, Ervin enjoyed being outdoors and throughout his earlier years held jobs with a poultry plant, on farms and with OFO tree working. His spare time was also spent outside, whether he was hunting, fishing, or just putting around and taking in the fresh air. He was a devoted family man who will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind.
He is survived by his children, Judy Schulze and her husband, James, Ervin Newberry, Jr. and his wife, Holly, Tammy Guerino and her husband, Ralph, Sherry Hoage and her husband, Lewis, Madeline Gage and her husband, Robert, Lori Schulze and her husband, George, Raymond Newberry and Tammy Bouck, and Christina Kelley and her husband, Brian. He also leaves fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law, Phyllis Guyer, and many special nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife and parents, Ervin was predeceased by his siblings, James and Rosie Newberry, Lillian and Richard Rogers, Shirley and Charles Elthorp, Everett and Dorothy Newberry, Betty and Frank Johnston and Clarence Guyer.
