Obituary of Barbara Ann (Stefula) Gilbo
LITTLE FALLS – Mrs. Barbara Ann (Stefula) Gilbo, passed away at the age of 69 on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Little Falls Hospital following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
She was born on November 6, 1947 in Little Falls, a daughter of the late John “Eddie” and Elizabeth (Mizerak) Stefula. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School, ‘Class of 1965.’ Barb went on to attend Herkimer School of Practical Nursing and graduating from there in 1966. Her marriage to James J. Gilbo “Jim” took place July 1, 1967 at St. Mary’s Church in Little Falls. She worked for Herkimer Memorial Hospital as an LPN and for 27 years worked with the Little Falls School System within the Food Service Department, retiring in May of 2007. Barb was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church as well as the Little Falls American Legion Auxiliary.
Barb was a devoted wife, mom, grandma and friend, and is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Jim; her son Jeffrey Gilbo of Little Falls, her daughter Melissa Pedone and her husband Joe of Utica, her grandchildren, Alexandra E. Pedone, Joseph V. Pedone, Nicholas J. Pedone, and Kathryn M. Pedone, her brothers – in – law, John Gilbo and John “Hap” Papaleo of Little Falls, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her mother and father – in – law, John and Margaret Gilbo, her nephew Francis John Gilbo, and her sisters – in – law, Roberta Gilbo and Mary Papaleo as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her funeral arrangements have been established with The Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street in Little Falls, NY. (315) 823-2424. Calling hours at the funeral home are on Sunday September 17, 2017 from 4 until 7 PM. The Little Falls American Legion Auxiliary will gather at the funeral home on Sunday at 5:00 PM for a service.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday September 18, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 East Gansevoort Street in Little Falls, NY with Rev. Joseph Famulare officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
It is the wish of the family that those wishing to remember Barbara Ann Gilbo in a special way consider a memorial donation to either the Herkimer County Humane Society (P.O. Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407) or to the American Cancer Society (100 Lomond Court Utica, NY 13502). Envelopes are available at The Enea Family Funeral Home for these purposes.
